My wife is very excited for me to share this new build with you; the Eagle 5 from Spaceballs. This was a really fun build to do, and had some little challenges here and there to get the details just right. There weren’t a lot of good reference resources, but I found some screenshots from the movie, and some 3D renders from what I think was a video game on Steam. It was fun to work in a different colour than light bluish grey or dark bluish grey.

This build includes by far the largest variety of pieces I’ve used to get the details just right. On the exterior, it was particularly satisfying to get a silver roller skate as the door handle, and I managed to find what I think are just the perfect silver rims for the tires.

I’m not a big fan of stickers or printed parts in a build. While it’s a very small detail, I was very pleased to use a round, orange tile for the logo at the front. I also hadn’t worked with any metallic elements before, so I had to do a lot of Google image searches to get an idea of the different colours. I’m really happy with how the rims and the rear view mirrors turned out in the metallic silver.

I am particularly happy with the wings and engines. I found what I think were models used in the movie, and it seemed pretty clear that the wings swoop down from the main body and then upwards towards the tips. There aren’t a lot of other exciting shapes on the boxy Winnebago frame, so I wanted to capture this detail right.

I tried a lot of different ideas, but I eventually settled on using part 15706 (Wedge, Plate A-Shape with 2 Rows of 4 Studs) to structure the wings. With some SNOT brackets and tiles, it gives a strong base to build off the rest of the wing.

At the back the bumper sticker (the white tile) and the license plate (the orange tile) are small details. I felt like the back needed a little more life, so I added in the engine exhaust in transparent blue and clear domes. From the back you can also see the angle of the wings as well!

I used screenshots from the movie to put together the cockpit, and the chairs have room for two minifigs to sit side by side. In the back is where the renders from the video game on Steam came in the most handy. I used them to make the kitchen (?), the iconic table (with space for minifigs in the chairs), the storage boxes, the toilet, and the beds in the back. It was a tight fit, so I had to edit down some details in order to fit in the key parts.
