I’m really excited to share this one with you, partly because Dune: Part Two is on its way, but partly because I’ve been working on versions of this model for a very, very long time.

I had initially started trying to make an ornithopter in the style used by the Atreides since it played a larger role in the first film, and honestly there were just more resources available to build from! But, I just couldn’t find ways to balance the size of the model with available Lego parts, leave room for mini-figs, and have it be solid enough to swoosh around.

So I scrapped it almost completely, and started working on a Fremen-style ornithopter. The smaller size worked better with available Lego parts, and despite there being less resources to work from, I found some set photos and screencaps from the film. I think I’m as close as I can get in Lego.

There were a few key elements that I felt were really important to capture right, like the long-sleek wings, the curved, teardrop shape of the body, and having poseable wings and landing gear. Some key parts like the Pagani Utopia windscreen, the helicopter blades and helicopter landing gear, and the ball and socket parts were necessary to making that happen!
